The Boss DM-2 Analog Delay is one of the most legendary delay pedals ever produced, renowned for its warm, musical repeats and unmistakable vintage character. Manufactured in Japan between 1981 and 1984, the DM-2 has become a highly sought-after collectible, especially early Black Label versions like this one. Powered by BBD (bucket brigade device) technology, it delivers lush, organic echoes that range from short slapback delays to atmospheric, self-oscillating feedback.
Controls include Repeat Rate, Echo, and Intensity. Repeat Rate adjusts the delay time, ranging from about 30 ms to 300 ms. Echo sets the level of the delayed signal in relation to the dry sound, while Intensity controls the number of repeats—from a single echo to runaway oscillation. This simple yet expressive layout has made the DM-2 a favorite for both subtle ambience and experimental soundscapes.
Praised for its warmth and natural decay, the DM-2 has been used by countless artists across genres, including The Edge, Prince, and John Frusciante. Its sturdy Boss enclosure and timeless tone ensure its place as one of the most iconic analog delays ever built.
