The Multivox Big Jam SE-2 Spit Wah is a rare auto-wah pedal from the late 1970s, built in Japan by Nihon-Hammond and distributed under the Multivox name. As part of the distinctive Big Jam series, the SE-2 stands out with its wedge-shaped orange enclosure and dynamic, vocal-style filtering. It’s become a sought-after piece among collectors and vintage pedal enthusiasts thanks to its funky character and unique interface.
The SE-2 is an envelope-controlled filter with a warm, analog sound and plenty of tweakability. It features sliders for sensitivity, resonance, sweep direction (up or down), and filter type (low-pass, band-pass, or high-pass), making it much more flexible than the typical auto-wah from the same era. The pedal responds beautifully to playing dynamics and offers everything from tight rhythmic funk to wild resonant sweeps.
Built in a sturdy metal enclosure with a large footswitch labeled “AMP / INST,” the SE-2 is powered by a 9V battery or external 9V DC supply. The controls are mounted on top and operated with vintage-style sliders, adding to its visual charm and hands-on feel.
Fully tested and in excellent working condition. A very rare and characterful Japanese envelope filter with a lot of personality and a great sound.
